Cape Town, South Africa | An African Adventure

Today was our final day in the city of Cape Town, South Africa, and it was a great one at that! We drove about an hour outside the city, through a few towns, and stopped at two vineyards for wine tastings. South Africa is home to some of the best wines in the world, and it was great to gain some insight into the industry. As we say goodbye to Cape Town tomorrow morning, we head out to Kruger National Park for a three day Safari, wish us luck!

After visiting the city of Stellenbosch, I feel like I could live there! It was home to beautiful white buildings, quaint boutiques and the University of Stellenbosch.

Once we had our fill of downtown Stellenbosch, we visited the Tokara Winery which was absolutely beautiful.

Not only does the Tokara Winery harvest grapes for wine, but they have olive groves as well. We were able to sample some delicious kalamata olives.

Tokara peacocks. Can you spot the second one?

We had reservations at La Petite Ferme where we had an absolutely delicious meal. This is a view of the back of the restaurant.

Our view from lunch!

Starter: Baked Prosciutto wrapped Camembert with Rocket Pesto, Fig Preserve and Almonds.

Main Course: Aubergine wrapped Lamb, Cabernet Jus, Minted Yogurt Dressing, Potato Wedges and Baby Vegetables.

Vineyards for days!

Some detail on the back of the building.

On our way to winery number two, we stopped by the Victor Verster prison, which is now the Drakenstein Prison. This is where Nelson Mandela completed his walk to freedom on the roadway you see in the photograph. This statue was erected in 2008 for his 90th birthday.

The second winery of the day was the Anura winery and it has only been in existence as a winery for 14 years. Anura is latin for frog and the statue you see in an upcoming image is at the entrance of the property. Before it was a winery, it was a dairy farm, and along with their wines they offer a vast variety of cheeses.
