Safari: Part 2 of 2 | An African Adventure

As promised, here is part 2 of 2 of our safari adventure. The pictures that follow are just a few of my favorites from our last three game drives. If you missed part 1, you can find it here!

During one sunset we were trying to track lion and we came across a field full of wildebeest playing and relaxing.

It is so quiet in the bush and with A.K.'s keen sense of hearing and knowledge of the animals, he was able to bring us directly to many we could hear in the distance. For the elephants, it was common to hear whole trees and branches breaking from them feeding.

We got him! This male lion was one of the best finds during our entire experience. He came within feet of our vehicle, while roaring for his brother to join him. As A.K. put it, his brother was probably out chasing skirt.

His fantastic roar! It sounds very different than you'd imagine, I wish we had better audio of it.

We stopped in the field to wait for the lion to come through the clearing. A.K. was on the radio communicating with other trackers, and Foster patiently sat in his tracker seat. Norman, on the left, came along on a few rides to shadow A.K., the best game driver around.

On our last morning we spotted not one, but two cheetahs! A very rare sighting.

Then he walked into the most perfect sunrise light.

Foster hopped off the car to track rhino near the watering hole.

...and then we found the elusive creature.

A female kudu. I was able to try kudu for dinner one night, and it's less like venison then I imagined. It's texture and taste was more similar to steak and it was delicious.

Foster guiding us through thick areas of the bush. This vehicle was a beast, we ran over and drove through trees daily.

A.K. and Foster following prints.

My family's shadow portrait as we waited in the truck for Foster and A.K. to return from tracking prints.

On our last sundowner drive, we stopped for drinks at the watering hole and waited for the pack of lions to show. Unfortunately, we didn't end up seeing them, but regardless we are more than satisfied with our trip!

Sub-adult hyena in pink, glowy morning light!

White rhino number four of four that we saw in two days! These guys are HUGE and very skittish.

A.K. and Foster are the absolute best! I will miss them a lot. After spending so much time with one another, it was great to get to know them, and it was fun to share stories and experiences. We were so lucky to have such an awesome pair.

A.K. (left) talking into my sister's GoPro, "This is fun, and you're having it!" My all-time favorite quote was after we ran over many trees and my dad commented on the strength and durability of the vehicle, A.K. responded with, "I'd rather have a sister who's a whore, than a brother who's a Land Cruiser."

Thank you both SO MUCH for our experience in the African bush, it wouldn't have been the same without you!
