Sarah + Gareth | Boston Esplanade Engagement

I first met Gareth through Andrew, a fellow RIT photography alum, when I first moved to Boston almost seven years ago. Since then, I've had the pleasure of spending time with both Gareth and his fiancé Sarah on many occasions, so I was absolutely thrilled when they asked me to photograph their wedding this October.

Neither Sarah nor Gareth are from the Boston area originally, but because they met as undergrads at Boston University, the city has a special meaning for them both. So on Saturday evening a few weeks ago, we met on The Esplanade, a bustling park alongside the Charles River right on the edge of the Back Bay neighborhood and Boston University itself.

It was a beautiful sunny day leading up to our shoot, but just as we began, the clouds began to roll in. The Esplanade offers beautiful views of the sunset, so naturally, we were all bummed at the cloud cover. But thankfully, Mark Twain was right: "If you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes," and about halfway through our session, the sun peeked out of the clouds and we were able to take full advantage of this iconic waterfront spot.

Sarah and Gareth are holding their wedding at Sarah's parents house just outside of Albany, NY. Backyard weddings are so much fun for me to shoot because of the relaxed atmosphere and all of the personal touches that Sarah and Gareth will be able to integrate. I cannot wait to document their big day on October 8th!
